HALSTEAD - Deloris M. Garner, 85, of Halstead, died Friday (Aug. 7, 2009) at Newton Medical Center in Newton.
She was born on Aug. 23, 1923, in Ponca City, Okla., to Arthur Lee and Josephine (Bishop) Guinn. They preceded her in death.
On June 12, 1954, she married Jesse L. Garner in Mexico. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1992.
Deloris was a retired over-the-road truck driver, where she worked alongside her husband for many years. She greatly enjoyed spending time tending her flowers and plants. Her neighbors and friends were close to Deloris, and she enjoyed their company.
Family was very important to Deloris. She greatly looked forward to spending time with her loving daughters and grandchildren.
Survivors include daughters, Deborah Garner of Newton and Donna Rader of Halstead; brothers, Bob Guinn of Mitchell, Neb., Paul Guinn of Fort Gibson, Okla., and George Guinn of Muskogee, Okla.; sisters, Wilma Owens and Cle Scott, both of Fort Gibson; and grandchildren, Danielle Marye of Lenexa and Jed Rader of Paola.
She also was preceded in death by an infant daughter; brothers, Donald, Junior, Dale, Fred and Jay Guinn; and sister, Maggie Gates.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Roger Scantlin of Newton Life Assembly of God in Newton officiating.
Burial will be at Halstead City Cemetery in Halstead.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas State University Center for Basic Cancer Research in care of the funeral home.
