Shirley Lassley, 80, died peacefully at
her home on Sunday (April 19th, 2015) in North Newton. Shirley was
born February 14, 1935 in Cawker City to John Fredrick and Mary
Katherine (Waner) Malek. They both preceded her in death.
Shirley attended schools in Florence
and Wichita and was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church.
She had six children and was a
homemaker. She enjoyed family gatherings, good food, going to movies,
family game nights and spending time with her children. She also
enjoyed collecting dolls over the years but most of all she loved
being a mother.
Survivors include four daughters, Diane
Montgomery, Nancy Homewood, Linda Lanham of Newton, Christine Lassley
of Wichita; one son, Danny Lassley of Newton; a brother Jack Malek of
Newton; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her
husband of 38 years Edward Lassley; a son, Steve Gottschalk; two
sisters, Sandra Smith, and Mary Lou Dean; one brother, Richard Malek;
and a step-brother Billy Creamer.
Visitation will be Wednesday (April 22,
2015) from 5-9 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass in
celebration of Shirley's life will be 10 a.m. Thursday (April 23,
2015) at St. Mary's Catholic Church with burial following at St.
Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Newton. Memorial donations may be made to
