Obituary
BUHLER - Irvin Edgar Peters, 89,
died Monday, March 2, 2015, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He
was born January 31, 1926, in Newton, to Ernst and Hermina Schmidt
Peters.
Irvin graduated from Walton High
School. He married Irma Woelk on July 1, 1945. She preceded him in
death on May 4, 2011. They resided in Newton until 1961, and then
moved to Buhler, where they have lived ever since. Irvin was a
resident at the Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community for the last
year and a half of his life.
Irvin was a master electrician and
master plumber. He owned Builder's Electric, spending many of his
working years helping to build churches and schools in Kansas,
Oklahoma and Texas. The final 15 years of his career he contracted to
provide electrical work for Farmers Grain Co-op and Mid Kansas Coop
in south-central Kansas.
Irvin served as a Boy Scout Scoutmaster
for several years both in Newton and Buhler; he was a member of the
Order of the Arrow. He and Irma served for 10 years as Kansas State
Directors in the National Campers and Hikers Association, and were
members of the Buhler Ramblers Campers for 50 years. They were avid
square dancers with the Salt City Squares. Irvin was a member of the
Buhler Kiwanis Club for many years as well.
Irvin was a loving husband, father,
grandfather, son, brother and friend. He is survived by sons, Ronn
(wife Pat) of McPherson, Jim (wife Terry) of Overland Park, and Greg
(wife Liz) of Prairie Village; daughters, Pat Peters of Hutchinson
and Barbara (husband Joe) Montgomery of Columbia, Mo.; one brother,
Eddie (wife Evelyn); 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; and 3
great-great-grandchildren.
Irvin was preceded in death by his
wife, Irma; three infant children; his parents; Irma's parents; three
brothers; one sister-in-law; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday,
March 6, at the Buhler Mennonite Brethren Church. Visitation will be
from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the
Buhler Mortuary. Burial will be at the Buhler Cemetery following the
service.
Memorial contributions may be made to
the Buhler Sunshine Home or the Buhler Kiwanis in care of the funeral
home.
