Thelma Lillian (Meyer) Murer
1918 - 2015 | Obituary
Thelma Lillian Murer, 97, a longtime
resident of rural Sedgwick, KS, passed away peacefully on May 13,
2015 at Asbury Park.
She was born January 18, 1918 in Inman,
Kansas, to Rudolph and Mary (Gamm) Meyer. She graduated from Inman
High School and met the love of her life Jerald Murer through the
church. By train, bus, and even hitchhiking, Thelma followed Jerald
to Watertown, NY where they were married in 1942 during World War II.
They built their farm in rural Sedgwick and ran a small dairy
operation until the birth of their grandchildren. She loved her time
as a farm wife and delighted in cooking, quilting, crafting, and
later doting over her grandchildren and great-grandchildren (and
becoming an expert sock monkey maker and surgeon). Her sock monkeys,
quilts, and other special gifts continue to be enjoyed by family and
friends across the country.
Survivors include: daughter Mary Lou
Boegler and Buford Kurr (Sedgwick, KS); grandson Jerald Boegler and
Brian Altman (Potomac, MD); grandson Andrew and Candace Boegler
(Saginaw, TX); granddaughter Kristin Young (Princeton, TX); grandson
Justin and Julie Boegler (Irving, TX); great-grandchildren Stella
Boegler Altman, Mason Boegler, Evan Boegler, Jayden Young, and
Jessica Boegler.
Thelma was preceded in death by her
life-long love Jerald Murer, an infant son, Jerry Paul Murer, and
son-in-law Vernon Boegler.
The visitation is from 5:00 p.m. until
9:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2015 at Peterson Funeral Home. Family
will greet friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service
will follow the next day at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at
Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Filipek officiating. The
burial will be at the North Inman Cemetery where her earthen vessel
with be laid with the rest of the Gamm / Meyer family.

Thelma's memory to Zion Lutheran Church where she was a long time
member.
