1919 - 2015 | Obituary
HALSTEAD - Edna Lucille "Eddy"
(Boam) Westfall, 96, died on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Newton
Medical Center.
She was born on March 11, 1919, the
daughter of Eada (Ault) and Benjamin K. Boam in Topeka, Kansas.
"Eddy" graduated from Topeka
High School and then attended college at Park College in Parksville,
Missouri.
On January 15, 1944, she married Dr.
George A. Westfall Jr. in Topeka, Kansas. During her lifetime, "Eddy"
only held three jobs. Entering the workforce, she was employed by
Price Candy Company while George attended medical school. After
"Eddy" and George relocated to Halstead, she was a house
wife and mother. Later she became the head city librarian for the
Halstead City Library and then went on to work for the Hertzler
Clinic as the Medical Research Librarian.
"Eddy" held a longtime
membership with the Halstead Presbyterian church. She was active in
her church and spent years teaching Sunday School classes.
Family was important to "Eddy,"
and she loved having the children and grandchildren come to visit.
The 4th of July was one of her favorite celebrations, with friends,
family and lots of firework displays. During the Christmas season,
she would decorate the entire home, with Christmas trees in nearly
each room.
Her passion for the library and helping
others to learn involved her being a member of the Halstead
Helianthos Club and board member for the Kansas Learning Center for
Health. "Eddy" was an active member for more than 64 years
with the chapter AK PEO.
"Eddy" was also a huge
enthusiast for KU basketball team and Nascar races. She had also
served multiple years as the Girl Scout Cookie chair person. In her
spare time you could find "Eddy" in her garden, where she
would always produce the best tomatoes around.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; her spouse; two brothers, Clarence and Jack Boam; sister,
Josephine Boam; and daughter-in-law, Paula Westfall.
Her survivors include son, Geo. A.
"Chip" (Terri) Westfall, Newton; daughter, Marcia Westfall,
Halstead; two grandchildren, Jacob (Tonya) Westfall, Halstead, Andrew
(Katie) Edwardsville; five great-grandchildren, Alexis Westfall,
Valerie Westfall, Addison Westfall, Paul Westfall and Molly Westfall.
Visitation will be Monday, March 23,
from 1 to 9 p.m., with the family greeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at
