Harold L. Miller Jr., 73, passed away
on Wednesday (Aug. 4, 2010) at Newton Medical Center.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1936, in Emporia
to Harold L. and Lelah Opal (Noel) Miller.
Harold married Alice Kay Starks on
April 11, 1965, at East Side United Methodist Church in Newton.
He was a graduate of Elmdale Rural High
School and Emporia State Teachers College. Harold served his country
in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1997 after working 32 years for the
city of Newton. He was an active member of East Side United Methodist
Church in Newton, where he served as lay leader for many years.
He enjoyed watching sporting events and
cherished the times he watched his grandchildren participate in
sports. He enjoyed being in plays with the Newton Community Theatre,
where two weeks ago he portrayed "Grandpa George" in Willy
Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Harold also looked forward to
traveling with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Alice Kay
Miller of the home; a daughter, Julie Stenzel and her husband Eugene
of Newton; and three precious grandchildren, Abby, Kyle and Luke, all
of Newton. He also is survived by a brother, James G. Miller, and his
wife, Mildred, of Wiley, Col., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; a son, Brian D. Miller; a brother, Richard Miller; and a
sister. Mary K. Miller.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m.
Friday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton with the family receiving
friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m.
Saturday at the East Side United Methodist Church in Newton with the
Rev. John Goering presiding. Graveside committal service will be at 4
p.m. Saturday in the Prairie Grove Cemetery near Cottonwood Falls.

United Methodist Church in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
