Rick Rickard
1928 - 2015 | Obituary
Rick Rickard, 88, died on June 21st at
the Presbyterian Manor in Newton.
Rick was born on October 16, 1926 in
Wellington, Kansas to Aubry and Bessie (Persons) Rickard.
Rick attended the El Dorado Public
Schools and the day after graduation he joined the Navy. He served
five years in the Navy and was active in the Atlantic, South Pacific
and Mediterranean Sea.
Rick met Ethel Boucher and after dating
they were married on August 1, 1948. They were married for over 66
years.
Rick and Ethel moved to Newton in 1952
where Rick worked for Safeway as a manager of the meat market for 37
years. He retired in 1986.
Family was very important to him. He
was a good husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Up
until recently, they hosted family dinners, planned family activities
and would share with others about what was going on in all of their
grandchildren's lives. He was a long time master Scout Leader. Rick
was well known at all of the local coffee shops in Newton and was a
life time member of the Druber's coffee club.
Rick is survived by his wife: Ethel;
children: Louise Rickard of Wichita, Doug and Kathy Rickard of El
Dorado, and Dave and Sandy Rickard of North Newton; four
grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother:
Bessie Hopper.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00
p.m. Thursday, June 25th at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel. A
visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 24th, from 5:00 to 9:00
p.m. with the family present from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Burial will
follow the service at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in rural Newton.
A memorial has been established with
the Harry Hynes Hospice and Boy Scouts Troop 123.
