Obituary
Sammie Lee Held, 58, died in Las Vegas,
Nevada on June 12, 2015.
Sammie was born on April 17, 1957 to
Jimmie and Lois Held in Newton. He attended Newton and Halstead
schools and was a graduate of Halstead High School.
Sammie was a fun loving person who
enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He was a great
mechanic and loved his 1960 Rag Top Chevy.
Sammie moved from Newton in the early
80's and lived in California. He recently lived in Las Vegas until
the time of his death. Sammie struggled with varied addictions
throughout most of his life. He had chosen to live a homeless life
style and was homeless at the time of his death.
Sammie was survived by his mother: Lois
Held; brother: Roger Held; sisters: Sandy Southern, Robin Stephens,
and Martha Chastain.
He was in preceded in death by his
father: Jimmie Held.
An informal Pot Luck Memorial Service
will be held at 5:00 p.m., Saturday,, June 20th, at the Halstead
Baptist Church, 525 Harvey, Halstead, Kansas. Guests are asked to
bring side dishes.
A memorial has been established for the
Harvey County Homeless Shelter, 900 W. Broadway, Building 7, Newton,
