Obituary
ElVera Prouty, age 82 of Newton died on
Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, KS.
ElVera (Vera) was born October 9, 1932
the daughter of George and Helena (Richert) Abrahams in Goessel. Vera
attended Gordon Grade School in rural Goessel and graduated in 1950
from Goessel High School. After graduation she attended Bethel
College and then worked at Kansas State Bank in Newton until 1958. On
March 9, 1958 she married Clyde Henry Prouty II at Goessel Mennonite
Church.
Vera was a member of the Bethel College
Mennonite Church, where she served as Sunday School teacher and
enjoyed serving on the MCC Sale Committee and making zwieback and
other baked goods annually. She was also a Grandparent Reader at
Sunset Elementary School and served on the Harvey County Election
Board for many years.
Vera is survived by her children; Bill
(Mary) Prouty, New Hampton, IA; Cindy Ratts, Newton; Terry (Gordon)
Wiebe, Whitewater; Joan (Paul) Minkevitch, Newton; and Hank (Elaine)
Prouty, Newton. Grandchildren: Tracie (Gordon) MacLeod, Danae (Matt)
Epp, Troy (Aubrie) Wiebe, Levi (Logan) Minkevitch, Zach Prouty, Sadie
Minkevitch, Silas Minkevitch (fiancé Shauna Denton), Denny Wiebe,
Titus Minkevitch, Taylor Wiebe and Austin Prouty, Great Grandchildren
Lincoln Epp and Brielle Wiebe and sister Grace Schroeder, numerous
nieces and nephews.
Vera was preceded in death by her
parents, husband Clyde, and brother; Willis Abrahams.
Memorial Services will be Sunday, June
14 at 3:00 PM at Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton. A
private family burial will be held at a later date. . Memorials can
be made to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) or Schowalter Villa Good
Samaritan Fund.
