Obituary
Raymond R. Gonzalez, 84, died at Via
Christi St. Francis on July 12, 2015. He was born on February 25,
1931 in Newton to Ylaria (Rincon) and Jose Gonzalez.
On July 2, 1955 he was united in
marriage to Hope Esperanza Gonzalez at the Our Lady of Guadalupe
Church in Newton. She precedes him in death.
Raymond graduated from Newton High
School in 1951. He later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps
and served during the Korean War. He was active and held memberships
with the American Legion Post # 202 and the V.F. W. Raymond was a
member of the Francisco Madero Society and a Mexican-American Hall of
Fame recipient.
He loved sports and dancing. Raymond
and Hope spent lots of time on the dance floor and won a disco
contest at one time. His other hobbies include bowling, golfing and
watching Chiefs football. The most important part of his life was his
family. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the
highlight of his life.
Preceding him in death were his
parents, lovely wife, Hope; five brothers, Maximo, Martin, Carmen,
Antonio and Dort Gonzalez; three sisters, Loretta, Natalia and
Ortencia Gonzalez; one great grandson Jonathon Wake; sister-in-law,
Isabelle Gonzalez; two brother-in-laws, Rudy Chapa, Leo Moreno.
Survivors include five sons, Vincent
Gonzalez, Robert (Janie) Gonzalez, Raymond V. Gonzalez, Gilbert
(girlfriend Leatha Cool) and Ruben (Jamie) Gonzalez, all of Newton;
daughter, Cecilia (Robert) Smith, Newton; four brothers, Socorro
(Elsie) Gonzalez, Daniel Gonzalez, Reynaldo (Theresa) Gonzalez and
John (Wilda) Gonzalez; three sisters, Angie Chapa, Ft. Worth, TX and
Josie Victorio, Newton, KS , Anita (Richard) Domme ; 18
grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and numerous cousins.
Visitation and viewing will be 1 to 8
p.m. Wednesday, (July 15, 2015) at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home
with the family greeting from 6 to 8 p.m.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be 7
p.m Thursday (July 16, 2015) at Our Lady of Guadalupe. The casket
will be open for viewing at the church beginning at 1 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held
on Friday, July 17th at 9:00 A.M. at the church. Father Juan Garza
will be presiding.
