Laurel Esther SteeleHUTCHINSON -- Laurel Esther Steele, 89, Hutchinson, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006. Mrs. Steele was born Laurel Esther Nininger on Dec. 8, 1916, in Nickerson, the daughter of John and Frances Stuart Nininger. She was a homemaker. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1936 and was a member of the Community Church of the Brethren. In Salina she was a 4-H leader and Girl Scout leader. She married Bobbie A. Steele, D.V.M., on March 9, 1940, in Newton. She was preceded in death by a son, Elwyn Bradley Steele; a brother, Ed Nininger; a sister, Nellie Moorman; and a grandson. Survivors include her husband, Bobbie; two daughters, Sandra Sue Sorensen of Denver and Barbara Annette McVey of Enid, Okla.; a brother, Lawrence Nininger of Hutchinson; a sister, Grace Kincaid of Hutchinson; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Elliott Funeral Chapel, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson 67501. A graveside service will be at 4:30 p.m. today at Roselawn Memorial Park, 1920 E. Crawford, Salina 67401. Memorials may be made to the Community Church of the Brethren or Hospice of Reno County. Condolences may be sent to www.elliottmortuary.com.
