William "Fawn" Manring

1934 - 2015 | Obituary

William "Fawn" Manring, 80, died Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at his Newton residence. He was born December 30, 1934 in Newton, Kansas to William A. and Laura K. (Stewart) Manring. On August 14, 1953 he married Edwarda Leffingwell and she preceded him in death on November 5, 2013. Fawn served his country in the U.S. Army as Chaplain's Assistant and was honorably discharged in 1959. He worked for 43 years at the Kansas Gas Service Company. He held many jobs at the Kansas Gas Service Company including management positions. His favorite job however was that of Trainer. He was a member of the Newton Masonic Lodge #142 and former member of the Lions club. In his retirement he enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels and worked for Dillon's delivery for the pharmacy and floral departments. Fawn also enjoyed woodworking and made many quilt racks and other wood working creations for his family and friends. He could be found around a table at McDonald's most mornings or afternoons enjoying coffee with his friends and catching up with what was going on around town. Fawn was a family man and greatly enjoyed spending time with his loving children, grandchildren and many friends including his special little dog Sally.

He is survived by his children Tim and Kim Manring and Malissa Ann Bolte both of Newton, KS; 5 grandchildren Steven, Chris and Brad Bolte and Ericka and Jerik Manring and one great grandson, William Connor Bolte, who was named after him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister Lois Prater

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 10, 2015 at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tom Snyder presiding. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Newton, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to Gentiva Hospice or Newton High School Class of '52 Endowment Fund c/o Petersen Funeral Home.
