Donita Mae (Steele) Cohorst (1948 - 2015)

Obituary

Donita Mae Steele Cohorst, 66 years 8 months 6 days, of Marysville, joined her Lord and family in heaven Monday (August 3, 2015) at Hanover Hospital, Hanover.

Donita was born November 27, 1948 at Halstead Hospital, Halstead. Her father was Alva Malcolm Steele and her mother was Bertha May Hosie Steele.

Donita attended Mt. Pleasant District 41 School for several years before moving to Halstead Elementary School. She attended Halstead High School, graduating in 1966. Donita attended Kansas State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in foods and nutrition in 1970. She earned a master's degree in foods and nutrition in 1971. She moved to Indiana University and Purdue University at Indianapolis to complete a dietary internship to receive her Registered Dietitian certification.

On August 16, 1969 Donita married Steven James Cohorst in the First United Methodist Church, Halstead. Donita has two sons: Scott James Cohorst (wife Jo Ellen, sons: James and John) of Evansville, Indiana, and Sean Michael Cohorst (significant other Danielle Pishny) of Marysville.

Surviving members of the family include: husband Steven Cohorst, sons Scott and Sean (and their families), sisters Carole Steele Becker (Ron) of Loveland, Colorado, Marlene "Marny" Steele Richter (James "Jim") of Loveland, sister-in-law Joy Steele Penner (Clayton) of Newton, aunt Louene McBride - who celebrated her 100th birthday on July 12, allowing Donita to visit many relatives - and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Family members preceding Donita in death include her father, Alva M. Steele; mother, Bertha M. Steele; brother Duane Alva Steele; and nephew Mark Duane Becker.
