Gladys R. Harms

Gladys R. Harms, 88, passed away June
30, 2015, at Kidron-Bethel Village in North Newton, Kansas. She was
born on November 7, 1926 in Newton, Kansas to Arthur and Ruth
Schmidt. On September 9, 1947 she married Merril J. Harms at Grace
Hill Mennonite Church. She was a life-long member of Grace Hill
Mennonite Church, rural Whitewater.
Besides helping her husband on the
farm, she was involved in numerous volunteer organizations: Kansas
Rural Letter Carriers Association, Bethel College Women's
Association, Camp Mennoscah Board, Mennonite Central Committee, and
for 30 years as a volunteer at the Ten Thousand Villages in Newton.
She was known for decorating her
flavorful wedding cakes, her love for hospitality, and trying new
recipes. She was a wonderful grandmother.
She is survived by her husband Merril
Harms, North Newton; daughters Marianne Eichelberger, North Newton,
and Jenny and Weldon Martens, North Newton; and granddaughters Laurel
Martens, Boston, and Michaela Martens, Lincoln, NE; and extended
family.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, son-in-law Gary Eichelberger, infant grandson Graham Harms
Martens, and brother Olin Schmidt.
Memorial Services will be 10:30am,
Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Grace Hill Mennonite Church with Pastor
Randy Smith officiating.
Friends may greet the family Friday,
July 3, 2015, 6:00 – 8:00pm, at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be
given to Grace Hill Mennonite Church or Camp Mennoscah.
