Calvin E. Chandler

Calvin E. “Cal” Chandler, 83, died
June 15, 2012, at Kidron Bethel Healthcare in North Newton.
He was born March 8, 1929 in Pawhuska,
Okla., to Charles E. and Veva (Caldwell) Chandler. Cal served his
country in the U.S. Air Force. On July 19, 1952, he married Irene in
Alva, Okla., and she survives. Cal was a member of First Presbyterian
Church Newton. He was a graduate of Northwestern Oklahoma State
University and earned his EdS at Emporia State University. He was a
former principal at Emporia High School and retired assistant
superintendent for finance for the Newton and Arkansas City school
systems. He was a local Habitat for Humanity president and member of
the Kansas Business Association and Newton Rotary Club. He enjoyed
woodworking, reading and spending time with his loving family and
friends.
Cal is survived by his wife Irene of
the home; son Craig Chandler of Lincoln, Neb.; daughter Geri Judd of
Braden, Fla.; and sister Barbara Jones of Hays. He also is survived
by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Cal is preceded in death by his parents
and one brother, Melburn Chandler.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m.
Thursday at First Presbyterian Church Newton with the Rev. James W.
Anderson presiding. Private family inurnment will be in the Greenwood
Cemetery.
