Vera M. Johns, 83, died, Saturday
(August 15, 2015) at Comfort Care Home in Newton.
She was born August 22, 1931 in Valley
Center to George and Eva (Schuessler) Bastow. On November 19, 1947,
she married Glenn Johns and he preceded her in death. Vera was a
member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was a leader in both 4-H and
Girl Scouts. She enjoyed tending her garden and canning produce. Vera
was a Kansas State Women's Trap Shooting Champion and enjoyed
fishing. She also spent time crocheting and loved to cook and share
her creations. Family was important to Vera and she greatly looked
forward to spending time with her loving friends and family,
especially her great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Diana
and her Husband Larry Schmidt of Sedgwick; brother Alvin Bastow of
Valley Center; two grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her
parents, husband, infant brother Mark Bastow and brother Orval
Bastow.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m.,
Wednesday (August 19, 2015) at Sunnydale Park Cemetery, 101st street
and North Hydraulic, with Chaplain Tal Tittsworth Presiding.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening with the family
receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.

Shepherd Hospice or Juvenile Diabetes Association in care of Petersen
Funeral Home.
