Dorothy Louise Stubby, 83, passed away on Sunday (August 30, 2015) at Touchmark in Helena, Montana.

She was born Dorothy Louise McCarty, daughter of Gene and Vera McCarty in Marion, Ks., on November 10, 1931. Dorothy was the second oldest of five McCarty siblings. Dorothy married Gilmer Stubby, the love of her life, on February 18, 1951. They had two children, son Terry and daughter Sandy. Gilmer and Dorothy lived their life together and raised their family in Newton, Ks. Gilmer left Dorothy's side when passing on July 9, 2013. Sunday, Dorothy joined Gilmer and once again, dancing in each other's arms.

November, 2013 Dorothy moved to Helena, Montana to be near her Montana family, living her remaining life at Touchmark in Helena.

Dorothy attended school in Marion, Ks., graduating from Marion High School in 1949. Dorothy was a beautiful and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, homemaker and wife. Dorothy worked various jobs throughout her life, including waitressing, secretary, cashier, and receptionist.

Her hobbies throughout her life were many. In her younger years Dorothy enjoyed going hunting with her family. Dorothy and Gilmer were often seen on weekends out on the dance floor at the V.F.W. and Legion. They were great dance partners and enjoyed it immensely. Dorothy loved the outdoors, fishing, camping and gardening. Dorothy and Gilmer also enjoyed bowling together. She won numerous bowling trophies while bowling in mixed leagues with Gilmer.

Some of her other hobbies included embroidery, latch hook, crossword puzzles, playing cards, and roller skating.

The most important thing to her throughout her life has always been family.

Along with Gilmer, Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; Peggy Hett and Patsy Adams; and brother, Donald McCarty.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Terry Stubby and wife Kim of Helena; daughter Sandy Flaming of Newton, Ks.; grandchildren, Brandi Stubby of Helena, Brent Flaming of Oklahoma City, Okla., Michelle Morris of Fall City, Wash., Kristal Flaming of Lincoln, Neb., and Dustin Flaming of Newton, Ks.; great grandchildren, Emmeline Peterson of Helena, Payton, Michael and Bennett Morris of Fall City, Wash., Abigail Flaming of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jackson Flaming of Newton, Ks.; brother Larry McCarty and sister-in-law, Karen of Maple Lake, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to those who offered such kindness, support and comfort to our mom, Dorothy, the last two years at Touchmark. The care and love you gave Mom was amazing and we will forever be grateful.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday (September 8, 2015) at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton. Dorothy will join Gilmer by his side in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

The casket will be open at the funeral home after 1:00pm on Monday where the family will receive friends between 6pm and 8pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Kansas, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
