Gregory Hyett Hall

HALSTEAD-Hall, Gregory Hyett 60, died
of St. Helena Island, died late Thursday, October 22, 2015. Born in
Halstead, Kansas, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Irene Hall.
Mr. Hall considered his greatest joy the success and accomplishments
of his family and his 38-year marriage to his wife, Nancy Irene Hall.
Mr. Hall was a multi-sport athlete, class president, and
valedictorian at Halstead High School in Halstead, Kansas. He
attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, where he graduated
with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and was a scholarship player
on the football team. He began his coaching and teaching career in
Wichita before moving to the Beaufort area in 1988. Mr. Hall was a
beloved football coach, teacher, and mentor to countless players and
students throughout a 34-year career in education. He began his
career at Wichita State University, where he became the youngest
graduate coaching assistant in the country. He went on to coach and
teach at numerous schools in Kansas, including Bethel College in
Newton; Newton High School; Bishop Carroll Catholic High School in
Wichita; and Great Bend High School. After moving to Beaufort, he
taught and served as the head football coach at Beaufort High School,
where he was named 1989 Beaufort County Football Coach of the Year.
He taught and served as the athletic director at Lady's Island Middle
School and Beaufort Middle School until his retirement four years
ago. Mr. Hall was a recipient of numerous accolades and awards
throughout his career. His high standards were exemplified by his
national teaching certification in early adolescence/mathematics, and
as a 1999 finalist for the National Science Foundation Presidential
Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. In addition
to his wife, Mr. Hall is survived by his daughters, Amy Parker and
her husband Joel of Hyattsville, Maryland, and Dana Hall of Beaufort;
his adoptive daughter, Dana Judd of Muskegon, Michigan; and two
grandsons, Ian Hall Wilson and Cory Judd. The celebration of his life
and BYOB/potluck with his family will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on
Wednesday, October 28, at the Fripp Island Community Center, 205
Tarpon Blvd, Fripp Island, SC. Additional visitation without the
family will be available from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm Wednesday at
Copeland Funeral Service, One Copeland Drive, Beaufort, SC. Donations
made to the Hall Family will be held for the future education of his
