Obituary
Peter, 3rd child of Carl and Martha
Voran, was born on August 19, 1923, on a farm near Castleton, Kansas.
He attended Zion Grade School and graduated from Castleton High
School in 1941. Upon his confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
he was baptized in the Mennonite Church in Arlington. In 1946 he
attended Grace Bible University in Omaha, Nebraska for 2 years.
Following this, he was pastor of the Hopefield Mennonite Church,
Moundridge, KS while attending Bethel College in North Newton.
He married Lois Geiger on August 5,
1949. In 1951, following graduation from Bethel, they went to Japan
as missionaries with the Commission on Overseas Missions of the
General Conference Mennonite Church. They served 30 years with that
work. They served at the First Mennonite Church in Pretty Prairie for
6 years and also had several interim pastorates since their
retirement. They have resided at Kidron Bethel Village since July
1991.
Peter passed into the presence of the
Lord, November 14, 2015.
Surviving are children Dave (Linda),
Leawood, KS, Debra Graber (Allen), Newton, KS, Dan (Darryl), Bow,
Washington, grandchildren Brandon Voran (Sara), Kansas City MO,
Joshua Graber (Staci), Fayetteville, Ark, Jill Utecht (Adam),
Hillsboro, KS, Mindy Graber (Bryan Ulrey), Denver, Co, Nichole Voran
(Keith Prinkey), Connellsville, PA, Chelsea Funk, Pittsburgh, PA,
eight great-grandchildren, Hannah, Sophia and Claire Utecht, Emeri
and Elijah Graber, Layla Voran, AJ and Natty Prinkey. Also surviving
are sister and brother-in-law, Bill and Betty Engle, Pineville, MO,
two brothers-in-law, Wallace Geiger (Wanda) and Mahlon Geiger (Anne)
of Pandora, OH, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding Peter in death were his wife,
Lois, son, Douglas, parents, Carl and Martha Voran, sisters, Mildred
Austermiller (John), Helen Mitchell (Doc), Mary Hayes (Lee),
sisters-in-law, Treva Geiger and Wava Wiens (Harry), in-laws, Monroe
and Anna (Hofstetter) Geiger.
Viewing is Friday, 20th at Broadway
Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS, with family in
attendance from 6-8pm.
Interment will be held Saturday, 21st
at First Mennonite Church Cemetery, Pretty Prairie, KS at 10:30am
with a visitation brunch to follow.
Memorial service will follow at 2pm at
Shalom Mennonite Church, 800 E. First, Newton, KS at 2:00pm.
