NEWTON — Dale W. Smith, 83, died
Friday (June 15, 2012) at his Wichita residence. He was born January
3, 1929 in Independence, Kansas to Donovan W. and Elfleda (Daggett)
Smith. On September 5, 1953 he married Justina Peters in York,
Nebraska and she survives of the home. He was a graduate of York
College in Nebraska and The United Theological Seminary in Dayton,
Ohio.
He served his country in the United
States Army. Dale was a retired minister serving churches in Kansas,
Ohio and Nebraska. Dale also retired from the Wichita Technical
Institute where he was an instructor in the electrical trade for 10
years.
He enjoyed spending time fishing,
golfing, and reading technical and informational books and manuals.
He also built two homes for his family one in Ohio and one in Kansas.
One of Dale’s loves was singing both
in solo and in choirs. Family was important to him and he enjoyed
spending time with his loving family and friends.
He survived by his wife Justina of the
home; daughters: Colleen Smith of Wichita; Debra and Harley Davis of
Tulsa; Candace and Scott Day of Augusta; Angela Smith of Wichita and
Rebecca Smith of Wichita; one brother: Martin E. Smith of Wichita;
and one sister Marilyn Haley of Bethel; he is also survived by six
granddaughters and two great granddaughters.
Dale is preceded in death by his
parents and one brother, Forrest A. Smith
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m.
Saturday at Grace Hill Mennonite Church in rural Newton with Pastor
Peter Goerzen Presiding. Burial will be at 10 a.m. in the Grace Hill
Cemetery with Pastor’s Tom and Lois Harder presiding. Visitation
will be 5 to 9 p.m. Friday with the family receiving friends from
6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.

suggested to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Grace Hill Mennonite
Church in care of Petersen Funeral Home
