W.R. “Bill” Holdeman (1923 - 2015)
Obituary
W.R. "Bill" Holdeman, 91,
passed away October 20, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born December 23, 1923, at Rich Hill, Missouri, the son of
Joseph and Esther (Luginbill) Holdeman.
He was a licensed barber, operating
Holdeman's Barber Shop. He attended Halstead Schools. He proudly
served our country during WWII, with the United States Marine Corps,
and a member of Carlson's Raiders. He was wounded in combat receiving
a Purple Heart.
He was married to Marcheta Walters in
November of 1963, to this union a daughter was born. He later married
Feebie Woodrum Smith in November, 1982. This union would bring four
more children into Bill's life.
Bill was a life member of the American
Legion, he was also a life member of the VFW, he was a former Newton
City Commissioner, a former Marion City Commissioner, and he was the
former Mayor of Newton.
Bill is survived by his wife, Feebie of
Marion; his daughter, Kathee Vaught (John) of El Dorado; 4
step-children: Nathan Smith (Carol) of Joplin, MO; Valerie Duerksen
(Jeremy) of Hillsboro; Brenda Smith (Daryl) of Marion; and Cerece
Lawson (Scott) of Burlington; 2 brothers, Chuck Holdeman (Beth) of
Goddard; and Kenny Holdeman of Lee's Summit, MO; 11 grandchildren;
and 7 great-grandchildren.
Visitation with family will be from 5 –
7 p.m., Thursday, at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion. The Funeral Service
will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 23, 2015, at Eastmoor
United Methodist Church, Marion. Interment with military rites will
be in the Marion Cemetery.
