Wilmer A. Harms (1922 - 2015)
Obituary
Wilmer A. Harms, 93, passed away on
September 17, 2015 at Kidron Bethel Village, North Newton. Wilmer was
born on July 2, 1922, the son of William and Anna (Thiessen) Harms.
He graduated from Goessel High School and during World War II served
in the Civilian Public Service. On October 21,1946, he married Esther
Ediger, his wife of 64 years, and they had two sons, Willard and
Kevin. Wilmer attended Tabor College and graduated from Kansas
University and the KU School of Medicine. After practicing as a
family physician in Hesston, KS, for 11 years, he obtained his
specialty in ophthalmology and practiced at the Hertzler Clinic in
Halstead, KS, until his retirement in 1992. Wilmer is survived by his
sons, Will (Mary) and Kevin (Becky); six grandchildren, Stacey,
Charles, MacKenzie, Blake, Craig, and Anne Harms; brother, Verdon;
and sister, Elfreda Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his wife,
Esther; his parents; brothers, Marvin and Richard; and sister, Phebe
Just.
Visitation will take place from 6-8
p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015, at Koerner Height's
MB Church, Newton, KS. Funeral services
will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 26,
2015, also at the church. In lieu of
flowers, memorials may be made to the Center for Mennonite Brethren
Studies or Kidron Bethel Village. Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston,
is in charge of arrangements.
