Thelma Meier
1920 - 2015 Obituary
Thelma (La Veta) Meier passed away on
September 20, 2015 at the age of 95.
La Veta was born in Stafford on March
11, 1920 and moved to Newton in 1939 where she spent most of her
life. She died in Hesston while in hospice care. Her parents were
Monroe and Olive Turnbull.
She is survived by her beloved spouse
Dale Meier. They were married in 2000.
She is survived by four sons; Doug from
Denver, Lou from Denver, David from Seattle and Bob from Tulsa. She
also is survived by five grandchildren; Jack Chrysler from Dallas,
Nathan and Katie Richardson from Kansas City, Shana Nicole Nelson and
Amy Holzhueter from Kansas City. She leaves four great grandchildren.
From her marriage to Dale she is also survived by nine stepchildren,
twenty five grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.
One brother and four sisters preceded
her in death.
She was widely known in the Newton area
as the manager of the Leonidas Restaurant during the 60's and 70's.
At age 60 she attended Christ for the Nations in Dallas, learned to
speak Hebrew, and went on to Jerusalem Israel where for several years
she performed volunteer work for disabled children.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m.
Friday, September 25, 2015 at Schowalter Villa Chapel with The Rev.
Dr. George Mitchell presiding. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Thursday evening at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving
friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 at the funeral home. Burial will be in
the Greenwood Cemetery Newton, Kansas.
