1947 - 2015 Obituary Condolences
Leland "Lee" W. Tillberg, 68,
died Friday, September 25, 2015, at Asbury Park in Newton, Kansas. He
was born June 22, 1947, in Salina, Kansas, to Lawrence and Rosalind
(née Johnson) Tillberg. Lee was baptized on September 28, 1947, and
confirmed on September 24, 1961, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in
Salina, Kansas. He graduated from Salina High School in 1965 and went
on to earn his undergraduate degree at Ft. Hays State University; Lee
later earned a Master's degree from Friends University. On August 8,
1970, he married Rhonda Meier in Hays, Kansas, and she survives of
the home. He worked as a loan officer for the former Kansas State
Bank in Newton and also worked at Orscheln, Tractor Supply Company as
well as Wild Trucking. Lee was a history buff, enjoyed reading and
researching family genealogy, and was a member of the Wichita Civil
War Round Table. Travelling with his wife to visit their children was
a favorite past time. Lee had a knack for fixing things and enjoyed
remodeling and construction around the house. His greatest joys were
his wife, children, and grandchildren and he greatly looked forward
to spending time with his loving family and friends.
Lee is survived by his wife Rhonda;
sons Chad Tillberg and his wife Emily Eaton of Amity, Oregon, and
Travis Tillberg and his wife Jessica of Englewood, Colorado; daughter
Ashley Hruska and her husband Michael of Knightdale, North Carolina;
brothers Arnold Tillberg and Gordon Tillberg, both of Salina, Kansas,
Eldon Tillberg of Smolan, Kansas, and Vernon Tillberg of Phoenix,
Arizona; sister Vivian McCulley of Monroe, Tennessee. He is also
survived by his four grandchildren: Cedric, Olive, Ava, and Hannah,
with another granddaughter arriving any day.
Lee is preceded in death by his parents
and sister, Elda Jean Richards.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m.
Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church in
Newton, Kansas, with Reverend Deborah Hollifield presiding.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, with
the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the
funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery Newton.
