Emmert A. Rowland
Emmert A. Rowland, 93, of Newton died
Friday (Nov. 30, 2007) at Asbury Park Healthcare in Newton.
He was born Aug. 2, 1914, in rural
Peabody to Daniel T. and Effie Alice (Moss) Rowland. He married
Virginia Hanke on Dec. 5, 1944, in Wichita. She preceded him in death
on Feb. 25, 2006.
He retired from Beech Aircraft after
being with the company for 38 years. Emmert was a World War II U.S.
Navy veteran and was stationed in Alemeda, Calif.
He was a member of Salem United
Methodist Church and the Double Duty Sunday school class, and held
leadership roles throughout the years.
Emmert enjoyed traveling, hunting,
fishing, restoring furniture, raising Brittany hunting dogs and
restoring cars. He once restored a 1965 Chevy Impala convertible. He
loved to play pinochle and was part of a card group. Family and
church were very important to Emmert.
Survivors include: a son, David and
Linda Rowland of Newton; daughters Vickie (Rowland) Moore of North
Newton and Sherry Rowland of Wichita; granddaughter, Jill
Rowland-Clanton and Josh Clanton of Newton; grandson, Daniel Rowland
of Newton; great-granddaughter, Kaitlynn Clanton of Newton;
great-grandson, Kolby Clanton of Newton; M.S.P. Family; and many
nieces and nephews.
He also was preceded in death by his
parents; seven brothers; and four sisters.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m.
Monday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. Family will greet friends
from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at
Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sherry Clemons of the
church officiating.
Burial will be in Restlawn Gardens of
Memory in Newton.
