Virginia P. Rowland, 82, died Saturday (Feb. 25, 2006) at Asbury Park Healthcare in Newton.
She was born Dec. 8, 1923, to William F. and Cecile B. (Gooding) Hanke in Goessel. They preceded her in death. She married Emmert A. Rowland Dec. 5, 1944, in Wichita. He survives.
Virginia was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Newton. She was a member of the Double Duty Sunday school class of the church, where she served as treasurer. She worked as a clerk for the former Dickey's and Moffat's jewelry stores in Newton. She retired from Newton Presbyterian Manor as an administrative assistant after 11 1/2 years in 1986. Virginia was a Girl Scout leader and PTA president as her children were growing up. Family was very important to Virginia, and she took great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to their visits.
Other survivors include: daughters, Vickie K. Moore of North Newton and Sherry R, Rowland of Wichita; a son, David B. and wife Linda Rowland of Newton; a brother, Bill and wife Charolette Hanke of Amarillo, Texas; a granddaughter, Jill Rowland-Clanton of Newton; a grandson, Daniel Rowland of Newton; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Clanton of Newton; and a great-grandson, Kolby Clanton of Newton.
She also was preceded in death by an infant sister, Gertrude Hanke.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sherry Clemons officiating.
Burial will be in Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton.
Memorials have been established with the Asbury Park (formerly Friendly Acres) physical therapy department in care of the funeral home.
