June Sylvia (Rossiter) Thaw
June Sylvia Rossiter Thaw, 80, retired
social worker, died Sunday (Dec. 16, 2007) at her home in Newton.
She was born June 6, 1927, in Newton to
Kean and Hazel (Rickman) Rossiter.
June graduated from Bethel College and
served as a social worker at Presbyterian Manor for nine years. She
was actively involved in the development of Mid Cap and was an active
volunteer in the community for many years for organizations such as
Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, Newton Community Playschool,
Harvey County Social Work Coalition and most recently the advisory
council of RSVP. She was a member of Hall's Chapel AME Church and
held a number of church offices.
She is survived by her daughters,
Valorie of Newton and Heidi of Wichita; a son, Terry of Wichita; two
daughters-in-law, Mary L. Thaw and Ana M. Ramos; eight grandchildren,
George, Nick, Isaiah, Omar, Natalia, Araseli, Essence and Aniayah;
five great-grandchildren, Erin, Zack, Andrew, Jolie and Wesley; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; husband, Booker; infant son; six sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m.
Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family present from
6:30 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m.
Friday at Shalom Mennonite Church in Newton, with Pastor George
Waddles officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in
Newton.
