Harold Eugene Dyck
1931 - 2015 | Obituary
Harold Eugene Dyck died July 3, 2015,
holding the hand of his sweetheart of sixty years after a brief
illness. He was born to Agnes and John Dyck near Burns, Kansas on
November 22, 1931, the third of five children.
He attended Peabody Public Schools, and
proudly served his country in the 14th Division Army during the
Korean War from May of 1952 until May of 1954, stationed in Korea the
majority of his service. Harold met Neva Lehrman in September, 1954,
introduced by mutual friends on a blind date to the State Fair in
Hutchinson. They married August 14, 1955 in Tabor Mennonite Church
near Goessel. Two children were born to this union; John Harold and
Margaret (Margi) Anne. Harold was very proud of his family, and he
was a wonderful husband and father. Harold served as Deacon in the
churches they were members of through the years, many of them at the
Christian Church in Newton, Florence, and also Marion.
After moving back to Newton, he and
Neva are members of Koerner Heights Mennonite Brethren Church. Harold
was a very hard worker and good provider for his family, working in
his early years for Claassen Oil and Lumber in Newton, as partner and
owner of A and D Propane Company, and over 30 years as manager for
AAA Hardware and Lumber in Peabody, now known as Peabody Hardware and
Lumber. He served as President of the Chamber of Commerce and Rod and
Gun Club; always willing to pitch in and work hard to make the
current project a success. He also had a wonderful sense of humor,
and loved a good practical joke.
Harold is preceded in death by his
parents, brothers Earl (who died at age 2) and Jerry.
He is survived by his wife Neva; son
John and Angie Dyck of Denver; daughter Margi and Art Schmidt of
