Lomaye "Chips" Hurley (1929 -
2015)
Obituary
Lomaye "Chips" Hurley passed
away on June 6, 2015. A longtime resident of Albuquerque, N.M., he
was born on September 3, 1929 in Newton, Kan., to Thomas Jefferson
Hurley and Helen Worth Balch Hurley.
He was predeceased by his brother
Lucius "Mike", also of Newton, and his wife Bettye Hall
Hurley.
He is survived by his children Mitchel
Hurley, Patrick Hurley, David Hurley, Timothy and Ursula Hurley,
Kathleen Hurley-Payne and husband Willie Payne, William Hall and wife
Shamrock Hall and Steven Hall; 12 grandchildren; and 16
great-grandchildren.
Chips had a distinguished career in the
U.S. Navy, serving from 1946 to 1974. He retired as a Master Chief
Diver, which he later used as a civil servant for medical research
with Bethesda Naval Medical Center, Md., for medical research for 20
years. He was a Mason since 1956, serving as master of two lodges, a
33rd degree Scottish Rite, York Rite, Shrine Legion of Honor, and
Deputy District 6 Grandmaster of New Mexico.
A Lodge of Sorrow was convened by Zia
Daylight Lodge 77 at Temple 6 Lodge on June 18. A private graveside
service was held for the family with military honors in Alamogordo,
N.M.
