1922 - 2015 | Obituary

Edwin H. Janzen, 92, died Sunday (July 5, 2015) at Kidron Bethel Healthcare in North Newton. He was born August 18, 1922 in rural Marion County, Kansas to Cornelius K. and Sarah (Hiebert) Janzen.

He attended Marion County elementary schools and graduated from Walton High School in 1941. On October 19, 1941 he married Mary Jane Schmidt at the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in Goessel, KS and she survives of the home. Edwin was a farmer and rancher for most of his life. He raised various crops, cattle and feeder pigs he also ran a custom bailing business for many years. Edwin also enjoyed vegetable gardening and enjoyed helping with the canning and storing his produce. He was employed with American Coach for 8 years during the 1960's. Edwin was a longtime active member of the Koerner Heights Mennonite Brethren Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir since 1976. He relaxed spending time woodworking and enjoyed making furniture for his family and to support the MCC relief sale. His family was very important to him and he enjoyed spending time with his loving family and many friends.

Edwin is survived by his wife Mary Jane North Newton, KS ; sons: Donovan L. Janzen Bessie, OK and John M. Janzen Boise, ID; daughters: M. Kay Self Newton, KS , Carol L. Schrag, Newton, KS and Bonita J. Schroeder Whitewater, KS; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Arthur Janzen, Walter Janzen, Abe Janzen, Curt Janzen, Elmer Janzen, Adolf Janzen and a sister Lydia Flaming.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 13, 2015 at Koerner Heights Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Tim Mace and Chaplain Eric Massanari presiding Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2015 with the family receiving friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. Graveside committal will be 9:00 a.m., Monday July 13 at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to Koerner Heights Church in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
