Obituary
Javan Shelly, 67, passed away
unexpectedly Tuesday (April 21, 2015).
He was the beloved son of the late
Maynard and Griselda Shelly. Shelly was a loving husband of 30 years
to Brenda Sue (nee Robbins) Shelly, devoted father to David C. (Kim)
Allen and Douglas F. Brock. He was a caring grandfather of Lindsey
and Katelin Allen, Ian and Nicholas Ashwell and great-grandfather of
Braedon.
Born February 21, 1948 in Bloomington,
Illinois. Javan moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1949 to First
Mennonite Church parsonage. He then moved to Newton in April 1955,
where he graduated from Newton High School in 1966. He attended
Bethel College in North Newton, graduating in 1970 with a B.A. in
chemistry. Javan attended graduate school at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison and graduated in August 1975 with a Ph.D. in
organic chemistry.
He volunteered with the Mennonite
Central Committee in the southern African country of Swaziland from
1975 to 1978 as manager of the water laboratory for the Water Board.
The water laboratory monitored water quality at the water treatment
plants throughout the country.
He worked in a post-doctoral position
at Rice University, Houston. He then worked for Gulf Oil Company as a
research chemist until 1982. After Gulf Oil he worked at USI/Quantum
Chemicals/Millennium Chemicals as a research chemist from 1983 to
2001.
He finished up his career as a machine
operator at LSI from 2002 to 2011.
Services were held Tuesday (April, 28
2015) in Cincinnati.
