Bert E. Grochowsky
Bert E. Grochowsky, 81, died Monday
(Sept. 9, 2002) at his residence in Newton. He was born Feb. 23,
1921, to John A. and Julia A. (Babinsky) Grochowsky in Newton. They
preceded him in death. He married Jean Kosminski May 27, 1930, [May
22, 1949] at St. Mary's Rectory by Monsignor Herman. She survives of
Newton. He grew up in Newton, attending St. Mary's School and Newton
High School. At age 22 he enlisted in the United States Army and
served one term from March 18, 1943, to May 4, 1946, during World War
II. He served in Coastal Artillery and served part of his enlistment
in Germany. He worked for the Fred Harvey Laundry for five years,
then went to work for Boeing Military Aircraft Company in Wichita. He
retired in August 1983 after 32 years of employment. He was a
longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Veterans of
Foreign Wars, both of Newton. He enjoyed operating the ham radio and
building computers.
Other survivors include: a son, Larry
Grochowsky of Newton; two daughters, Shari Lynn Grant and Terry Ann
Tyrell, both of Newton; three brothers, Bob Grochowsky of Santa
Margarita, Calif., Gordon Grochowsky of LaVon, Texas, and Joe
Grochowsky of Wichita; three sisters, Betty Foster of Redlands,
Calif., Judy Lillard of Needles, Calif., and Lucille Lee of Dallas;
seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by two
brothers, John Grochowsky and Bill Grochowsky.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p. m.
today and 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral
Home.
Recitation of the rosary will be 6 p.
m. Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home with Father John Hotze
officiating. Family will greet friends from 6 to 7 p. m. following
the rosary.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic
Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with
Central Homecare and Hospice in care of the funeral home.
