Verda Mae McElwain
HUTCHINSON - Verda Mae McElwain, 91,
died Wednesday (Jan. 10, 2007) in Hutchinson. She was born Feb. 20,
1915, in Burrton to Clarence Harrison and Estella Ann (King) Sanders.
Both are deceased. She was a former manager of Kansas Brace and Limb
Darlos Shoes in Hutchinson. She married Woodrow Wilson McElwain on
Aug. 14, 1933, in Woodward, Okla. He died Dec. 28, 2006. She was a
member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Pleasant Grove
Ladies Aid, both of rural Burrton, Burrton Saddle Club and Halstead
Saddle Club.
She is survived by daughter, Penny
Ewert of Burrton; sister, June Grant of Auckland, New Zealand;
grandsons Cody Horton of Newton and Troy Horton of Frisco, Texas;
granddaughters, Kala Horton of Halstead and Shana Schmidt of Newton;
step-granddaughters Michelle Ewert and Megan Smith, both of Newton;
four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren
and three step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; stepmother Emma Sanders; brother Vestal "Bud"
Sanders; and sister Norma McIlrath.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m.
Monday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in rural Burrton
with the Rev Larry Ankrom officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m.
Sunday at Kaufman Funeral Home in Halstead with family present from
6:30 to 8 p.m.
Burial will be at the Burrton Cemetery
in Burrton.
Memorials may be sent to the Pleasant
Grove United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
