Sandate, Betty Jo

Obituary

Betty Jo (Rogers) Sandate, 69, was called home by our Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday (Feb. 23, 2016) while at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family.

Betty was born in Salina, on July 15, 1946, the daughter of Tommy and Melba Jo Rogers. A graduate of Salina Central High School, she also attended Marymount College in Salina.  A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Betty was known for her compassion, generosity and love of family. In life, Betty developed a worldly lifestyle while living in six different countries in four continents. She was gracious in diplomatic settings, and a wonderful representative of her country. She cherished the many close friendships that she developed living abroad, many which still continue today. It was during her travels throughout the world with her family that she developed a deep loving concern for others, often reaching out to those less fortunate in Africa, Mexico and Colombia.  A consummate friend, she touched many lives and will continue to be an inspiration for her warmth, enormous heart, strong faith and sense of humor. Although ill during much of her adult life, Betty's thoughts were never on her illness or her pain, but on the happiness of others.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Celio Sandate of the home; daughter Christine Donivan and husband Steve of Derby; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jim; and one daughter, Cindy.

The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton.  The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday between 5 and 6:30 p.m.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 29, 2016, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with interment in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Newton. A memorial has been established with the Legacy of Faith Building Fund of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS, 67114.  Arrangements are by Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton.
