Friesen, Rosella

Rosella "Rose" Friesen 95, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Asbury Park in Newton.

She was born June 7, 1920, in Walton to David F. and Mary (Goertz) Schmidt. On March 9, 1941, she married Arthur Friesen in Lehigh and he preceded her in death. She worked at several restaurants, including Cedar Village and The Coffee Pot until the age of 72. She met a lot of people on her daily walks along High Street and West First. Rose and Art were well known for playing their guitars for the Walton Mennonite Church. During her stay at Asbury Park, she was an active resident and made many friends while participating in the many activities offered at Asbury Park.

She is survived by son Kenneth (Vickie) Friesen; daughters Rose Marie (Bob) Crawford and Linda (Ines) Flores; and brother Willard Schmidt, all of Newton. She is also survived by six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.  Rose was preceded in death by her husband Arthur; brothers Clarence and Waldo Schmidt; sisters Elsie Foth, Ann Reimer, Malinda Janzen and Viola Tilson; and granddaughter Carla Marie.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 3, 2016, at First Church of God at Broadway and Fairview with Pastor Clint McBroom presiding.  Interment will be next to her husband Arthur in the Restlawn Gardens in rural Newton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Asbury Park or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
