Ronald E. Ostlund
WALTON - Ronald E. Ostlund, 60, died
Monday (Jan. 15, 2007) in Walton in rural Harvey County. He was born
Oct. 27,1946, in McPherson to Ernest and Wilma Lee (Cook) Ostlund. He
was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice Glenn. On April 29,
2005, he married Nancy Franze in Newton. She survives of the home.
Ron was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Newton,
where he served in many capacities including chairman of the finance
committee, president of the
United Methodist Mens group, taught
Sunday School and was on the praise team.
He also worked with the church Boy
Scout troop for nearly 20 years. Ron was a patient father figure to
many children he met through the years.
Ron greatly looked forward to and
enjoyed spending time working on his ranch in rural Walton, where he
raised meat goats and horses. He also worked as a Realtor for
Coldwell Banker Stucky and Associates in Newton.
Ron looked forward to traveling with
his wife. Most recently, he celebrated his 60th birthday with a
cross-country trip to Maine. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors
hunting, fishing and water-skiing.
One of Ron's greatest joys was spending
time with his many friends and family and sharing his faith.
Other survivors include his mother,
Wilma Lee Howerton of Galva; son Jeff and Michelle Ostlund of Mt.
Hope; son Jim and Jody Ostlund of Pasadena, Calif.; daughter, Melinda
and Scott Ferguson of Newton; step-son Jim and Lori McGonigal of
Pueblo, Colo.; step-daughter, Jodi and Kevin Duncan of McMinniville,
Tenn.; granddaughters, Kathryn Ostlund, Miranda Ostlund, Lora
Ferguson, Hannah Ferguson, Lexi McGonigal, Ashley Deering, Caitlin
Deering, Meghan Deering and Emily Ostlund; grandsons, Brendan
Ostlund, Adam Ferguson, Jonathan McGonigal, Jeff Duncan, Jeremy
Duncan, James McGonigal, Cody Johnson and Zachary Johnson.
He also was preceded in death by his
father; step-father Farrell Howerton; and step-son Matthew Deering.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at
First United Methodist Church in Newton, with the Rev. Nathan Morgan
officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with
family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home
in Newton.
Burial will be at Hesston City
Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with
First United Methodist Church, in care of the funeral home.
