Marlene B. Schroeder
Marlene B. Schroeder, 79, died Monday
(Jan. 15, 2007) at Newton Medical Center. She was born May 22, 1927,
to Jacob and Justina (Regier) Schroeder in McPherson County. She
graduated from Goessel High School in 1945. She then attended Bethel
College, obtaining a special teaching certificate. On April 11, 1950,
she married Lloyd Schroeder of Goessel. Together, they ran a grain
and poultry farm, and she worked at Mennonite Press and Ruzen Flowers
in Newton. In 1976, she and Lloyd founded their Pine Creek Farm
Christmas tree business, which continues today.
Marlene was a very active churchwoman
at local, regional and national levels. She was the first woman ever
elected deacon in the Goessel Mennonite Church.
She was preceded in death by two
brothers, Sam and Edward Schroeder; four sisters, Margaret Riesen,
Edna Nickel, Sara Wunderlick and Alice Pankratz; and a son, JaDean.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd
of the home; daughter and son-in-law Rhonda and Stewart Ramsey of
Lenexa and their children Katherine and Austin; daughter and
son-in-law Jana Schroeder and Lauro Medina of Tepotzlan, Mexico, and
their son Julian; daughter and son-in-law Ardie and Wynn Goering of
Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters, Esther Ratzlaff and Evelyn Banman and her
husband Richard; and brother Alden Schroeder and his wife Irma.
Following a private interment, funeral
services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethel College Mennonite
Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Miller Funeral
Home in Goessel with family present from 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorials may be sent for the Bethel
College Mennonite Church or the Western District Conference of the
Mennonite Church in care of Miller Funeral Home.
