Gracie Mae Downen
Gracie Mae Downen, 99, homemaker, died
Tuesday (Nov. 8, 2005) at Friendly Acres Retirement Community. She
was born Dec. 9, 1905, to Thomas Jefferson and Minnie Jane (Wells)
Ivie in Oxford. They preceded her in death. She married Orvie Rector
Downen April 10, 1927. He preceded her in death March 20, 1972. She
graduated from the eighth-grade from Waco School in 1922. She had
been a Newton resident since 1947, formerly living in Wellington and
Hutchinson. Gracie was a member of Columbus Avenue Church of Christ
in Newton.
Survivors include: sons, Leslie and
Gladys Downen of Newton, Roy and Irene Downen of San Francisco and
Ray and Joy Downen of Mountain View, Calif.; daughters, Lola I. and
Raymond Patton of Hutchinson, Lois J. Dandridge of Overland Park and
Lula and Ralph Frey of Newton; several nieces and nephews; 11
grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by: a
sister, Opal I. Ivie; half brothers, Jim Ivie and Virgil Ivie; and
brothers, Charles Ivie, Joe Ivie, Jesse Ivie, Melvin Ivie and George
Ivie.
Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today
with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral
Home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday
at Columbus Avenue Church of Christ with Pastor Buddy Aldrige
officiating.
Burial will be in Restlawn Gardens of
Memory in Newton.
Memorials have been established with
Columbus Avenue Church of Christ in care of the funeral home.
