Sylvia L. Starns
HALSTEAD - Sylvia L. Starns, 97, died
Wednesday (Nov. 16, 2005) Halstead Health and Rehabilitation in
Halstead. She was born May 3, 1908, to William Wayne and Maggie
(Heaps) Patton in Chelsea. They preceded her in death. She married
Cyrus Hugh "Doc" Starns Jan. 27, 1925, in Nowata, Okla. He
preceded her in death July 25, 1994. She was a member of First United
Methodist Church. She was a member of Eastern Star and was a former
worthy matron in Chase County. She was a former former resident of
Chase County and was part Cherokee Native American. She was an avid
reader, loved quilting, crocheting, camping and fishing. She was a
beloved mother and grandmother. She enjoyed playing games with her
grandchildren.
Survivors include: a son, Galen L.
Starns and wife LaVeta of Lyons; daughters, Irene L. Pierce and
husband Max of Newton and Phyllis J. Brock of Independence, Mo.; a
sister, Maxine Jordan of Buehl, Idaho; a sister-in-law, Anna Starns;
15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 16
great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m.
Friday at Petersen Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m.
Saturday at First Baptist Church with Pastor John Bliss officiating.
Burial will be in Restlawn Gardens of
Memory in rural Newton.
Memorials have been established with
Hospice Care of Kansas and the church of the donor's choice in care
of the funeral home.
