Cornelius 'Curtis' Fast

Cornelius "Curtis" Fast, 89, of Newton died Monday (Jan. 29, 2007) at Newton Presbyterian Manor. He was born Sept. 29, 1917, in Alston, N.D., to Peter D. and Sarah (Smith) Fast. On Oct. 28, 1957, he married Mary A. Richard. She preceded him in death on Aug. 9, 1999. Curtis was a member of the Newton Bible Church. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer after 20 years of service from 1942 through 1962. He served during World War II and the Korean War. Survivors include son Dean and Ellen Fast of South Hutchinson; a stepson, Richard and Vivian Kanoski of Bourbonnais, Ill.; sister, Eva Koehn of Moundridge; two grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he also was preceded in death by several sisters; several brothers; and his parents.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Newton Bible Church with Pastor Don Myer of the church officiating.

Burial will be in Halstead City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice and Newton Bible Church Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
