Obituary
Donald E. Nightengale, 80, passed away
March 3, 2016, at Asbury Park of Newton.
He was born April 15, 1935, at Canton,
the son of Sam and Della (Luginbill) Nightengale. He graduated from
Burns High School in 1953, and was a member of the state champion
basketball team. On September 20, 1955, he was united in marriage to
Twylah Schmidt. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters:
Peggy, Carol and Janet.
They made their home near Florence,
where Don farmed and ranched. He was also an oil field pumper. He was
an active member of Homestead Friends Church, in Clements, where he
served as treasurer. After its closing, they attended the Christian
Church of Florence. When they moved to Newton, they joined the Salem
United Methodist Church. Don enjoyed playing cards and watching a
good ball game. He was a loving husband, spoiling father and fun
grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his
parents, a brother Melvin Nightengale; and a sister Betty Lou
Nightengale. He is lovingly survived by his wife Twylah of Newton;
daughters: Peggy Leitzen and husband Doug of Marengo, Illinois; Carol
Nightengale of Topeka; and Janet Turner and husband Bud of Eureka;
siblings: Marvin Nightengale of Burns; and Barbara Moore of Wichita;
5 grandchildren: Rusty Turner, Adam Turner, Luke Turner, Jeremy
Leitzen, and Amanda Pointer; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Visitation with family will be from
6:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday (March 8) at Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.
Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday (March 9, 2016) at
Salem United Methodist Church, Newton. Interment will follow in the
Burns Cemetery.
