Obituary

Dorothy M. Gathman Dudley, 91, of Sedgwick, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Dec. 30, 2015.

She was born in Mindenmines, Missouri, August 24, 1924, to the late John and Waneta (Jones) Gathman. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Charles A. Dudley, Sr., brother John Gathman, and great granddaughter Olivia Franzese.

She was affectionately known to many as "Dot" or "Dottie".

Dorothy graduated from Mindenmines High School and from Kansas State Teachers College (now Pittsburg State) in Pittsburg. She was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and the first woman, student council president. She taught Math and Science at Mindenmines High and went on to teach fifth grade art and math at Sedgwick Elementary for 17 years. She loved teaching and helping students excel. When not teaching, she worked in the Finance Division of Boeing Wichita.

Dorothy was a long-standing, active member of the First Christian Church of Sedgwick and helped establish the Little Hands Preschool at the church. She was a member of Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary, and enjoyed participating in the Sedgwick Senior Center activities.

Mrs. Dudley is survived by her three daughters, Donna K. Motl (Robert) of Port Charlotte, FL, Deborah A. Hanson (Stuart) of Wichita, Delinda S. Freeman (Michael) of Sedgwick; son Charles A. Dudley, Jr. (Donna R.) of St. James, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a very special sister Ruth Darlene Mitchael (John) of Gravette, Arkansas.

There will be a visitation and viewing from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday (Jan. 5, 2016); funeral services at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, (Jan. 6, 2016), both at the First Christian Church, Sixth and Franklin, Sedgwick. Interment will follow at the Sedgwick City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Memorial contributions be made to Little Hands Preschool, c/o the First Christian Church, Sixth and Franklin, Sedgwick, KS, 67135.

Special thanks from the family to the staffs of Kansas Christian Home and Gentiva Hospice both of Newton, for the excellent and kind care Dorothy received.
