Raymond Lee Byrd
Obituary
Raymond Lee Byrd, age 69, died at St. Francis Hospital in
Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sunday (Jan. 3, 2016).
Born July 6, 1946, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Lawrence
Edward and Margaret Elizabeth Byrd, he graduated from Coffeyville High School,
Coffeyville, in 1966. Raymond proudly served in the Army National Guard of
Kansas until 1972, attaining the rank of Specialist with commendations as an
expert in rifle. On Nov. 13, 2010 he married his beloved wife Jan (Stephens)
Byrd.
He lived in Sedgwick and worked 43 years driving semi-trucks
for various companies. The last eight years were spent driving for Groendyke,
whom he regarded as his second family until he could return home to his
faithful cock-a-poo, Jeannie, that would greet him with lots of kisses.
Raymond was an American Legion Rider and enjoyed taking
motorcycle trips on his Goldwing Motorcycle with Jan and his "angel"
Jeannie by his side.
Raymond will be especially remembered for his passion for
westerns, playing games with family and love of anything banana.
He is survived by his wife Jan Byrd, Sedgwick; son and
grandson Larry and Nicholas Lawrence Byrd, Clearwater, step-son Lance Lehman,
Hesston; step-daughter and granddaughter Cassandra and Isabella Lehman, Newton;
and brothers Bill and Bud Byrd of St. James, Missouri.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday
(Jan. 9, 2016) at the Sedgwick Senior Center 107 W. 5th St, Sedgwick, KS 67135.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be
made to Petersen Funeral Home.
