Alma Jeanne Barnes
Alma Jeanne Barnes, 80, died Sunday
(Oct. 12, 2008) at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born on
June 30, 1928, in Horton to Elmer Banks and Alma Orlu (Young)
Johnson. On Dec. 25, 1951, she married John H. 'Jack' Barnes in
Netawaka in Jackson County. Jack survives of the home. Alma Jeanne
was a charter member of Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in
Newton, where she was pivotal in constructing and guiding the music
program. She also was involved in her church circle and Sunday school
class.
She was a member of the former Harvey
County EHU, Rural Life Association and PEO.
Music was major part of Alma Jeanne's
life. She also enjoyed keeping up with friends and family through
cards and letters. She also has a collection of angel figurines she
had acquired through the years.
Family was important to Alma Jeanne,
and she enjoyed following her grandchildren's activities and events.
She greatly looked forward to spending time with her many friends and
loving family.
Other survivors include four sons,
Gregg Barnes of Prairie Village, John Barnes of Livermore, Calif.,
Bruce Barnes of Valley Center and Robert Barnes of Kansas City, Mo.;
and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
parents, brother Leland Johnson and sister Georgeann Leighty.
The service will be at 10 a.m.
Wednesday at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton with
the Rev. Phil Fischer of the church officiating. Burial will be in
Holton Cemetery in Holton. A graveside service will be at 4 p.m.
Wednesday at the cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m.
today at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family present from 6
to 8 p.m.
Memorial funds may be sent to Trinity
Heights' music program or Trinity Heights Respite Care, in care of
the funeral home.
