Obituary

Richard Knott, 87, died Sunday (Feb. 21, 2016) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. He was born Nov. 26, 1928 in Newton to Kenneth L. and Ruth (Perkins) Knott. On Dec. 12, 1952, he married Marilyn Smith at Highland United Church of Christ in rural Newton and she survives of the home. Richard served his country in the US Army and ran Central Livestock Barn in south Hutchinson along with his brother Bob and father Kenneth. He was a farmer and rancher and active in 4-H where he raised and showed cattle. He also served on the Emma Township Board in Harvey County. Richard sang with the Cloverleaf 4 barbershop quartet and was a square dancer. Richard was an active member of the Highland Trinity United Church of Christ and was instrumental in the start of and active supporter of the Hesston Area Senior Center.

Richard is survived by his wife, Marilyn of the home; son and his wife, Terry and Dana Knott of Hesston; grandaughters Megan Austin and her husband Aaron of Pratt and Morgan Simmons and her husband Nathan of Hesston; and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Carol, and her husband Richard Hrdlicka of Santa Fe, N.M.; and sister-in-law Edith Knott of Newton.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, brother Bob Knott and sister Virginia Johnston.

A celebration of Richard's life will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 24, 2016) at Highland Trinity United Church of Christ in rural Newton, with The Reverend Dr. Gary Blaine presiding. Family burial service will be at 3 p.m. in the Highland Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Schowalter Villa Good Samaritan Fund or Hesston Area Senior Center in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
