Evelyn J. Lohrentz (1937 - 2015)
Obituary
Evelyn J Franz Lohrentz was born
December 4, 1937 in Hutchinson, KS. She was the daughter of Peter T.
and Selma (Plett) Franz. Many fond memories were made working and
playing with her sisters Lovella and Verna Mae. She was preceded in
death by a stillborn sister, Mary Lou, and her sister Verna Mae.
Evelyn attended Inman schools and later
received a teaching degree from Bethel College. She taught first and
second grades at Willis School in western Harvey County then in
Hesston for ten years.
On June 4th 1960, she married Howard R.
Lohrentz at Hebron Mennonite Church near Buhler. They built their
home in Hesston in 1964 and made that house a home for 50 years.
She became a professional florist first
buying a flower shop and later working as a floral designer at
Country Gardens. Her final professional job was as an administrative
assistant at Dewayne Pauls Tax Office.
Evelyn was a loving mother, wife and
friend who had a way of making everyone feel special. A card game was
never hard to find as her door was always open to friends and family.
She was an avid gardener and artist
with a deep appreciation for the fine arts. Active in the church
Evelyn played piano and sang in choir. In later years Evelyn
continued to be active in the church, her Sunday school, church board
and volunteer works.
In August Howard and Evelyn moved to a
new home in the retirement development in Hesston where they
continued to be active with friends and family.
Evelyn was taken to the heavenly
gardens on Friday May 15th. Those who survive her and cherish her in
their hearts are loving husband Howard; children, Janelle(Denis)
Levitt of Tucson, Greg(Jane) Lohrentz of Manhattan, grandchildren
Matthew, Melanie, Alexa Kate and Amanda. She is also survived by one
sister Lovella(Albert) Franz of Buhler.
Family will greet friends from 5 to 7
p.m., Thursday, at Dyck Arboretum, Hesston. Memorial Service will be
at 11 a.m., Friday, at Bethel College Mennonite Church, Newton.
