George Koehn
George Koehn, 76, of Newton, died Saturday (March 8, 1997) at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.
He was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Harvey County to Cornelius C. and Agnes Goertz Koehn. He married Inez Wiebe on June 15, 1944, in Hillsboro. She survives.
He worked as a switchman/brakeman for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton, and the United Transportation Union.
Survivors include his wife, Inez of North Newton; four sons, James D. Koehn of Westminister, Colo., Stanley J Koehn of Manhattan, Steven A. Koehn of Newton, and Bradley D. Koehn of Emporia; one daughter, Virginia Benninghoff of Newton; five brothers, Jacob C. Koehn of Goessel, Cornie Koehn of Hesston, Frank Koehn and John Koehn, both of Newton, and Irwin Koehn of Blaine, Wash.; two sisters, Nellie Esau of Newton, and Martha Penner of Emporia; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Edward Koehn, and one sister, Margaret Revell.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton with the Rev. Steven Yoder and Mary Dyck, chaplain of Schowalter Villa officiating. Burial will be in the Restlawn Gardens of Memory in Newton. Friends may call until 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Petersen's Funeral Home.
