Mark Regier
Obituary
Mark Lynn Regier, 60, passed away
Thursday (March 31, 2016) in the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Wing of
Via Christi Hospital with loved ones by his side.
Mark was born on May 2, 1955, in
Henderson, Nebraska, to the late Harry and Dorene Regier. He was the
oldest of three children and had two brothers, Paul and Gary.
The family moved to Deer Creek,
Oklahoma, when Mark was in first grade. Growing up on the farm, Mark
learned a strong work ethic and loved playing basketball.
After high school, Mark moved to Kansas
where he met his beloved wife, Patricia, while working at Hesston
Corporation. They were married April 5th 1975, in Montezuma, and
begin their life farming together in Oklahoma.
Mark and Patti made many friends and
had three children: Nick, Kevin, and Jennifer. They farmed until
1986, when Mark started a long battle with health issues that caused
a career change.
Mark's family transitioned to Newton in
1991, as he began a new job with Koch Industries. Mark would have
celebrated his 25th anniversary with Koch on April 1, 2016.
Mark enjoyed hunting pheasant, quail,
ducks and geese. He taught many people how to hunt and he was
passionate about his dogs.
Mark enjoyed his job and the
camaraderie he found with the friends he worked with. More than
anything else, Mark loved his family.
Mark celebrated the graduation of all
three of his children from college and watched their lives and
families grow. He loved visiting his kids, and especially his
grandkids, wherever life took them.
In 2012, Mark was diagnosed with
Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and he fought to beat it into remission. His
life was changed shortly after as he began to follow Jesus in a new
and deeper way. Mark and Patti jumped in with the launch of The
Gathering Community Church two years ago, and life has never been the
same.
Mark is survived by his wife, three
children and five grandchildren: Nick Regier and his wife Shannon of
Lakeville, Minnesota and their children Harrison (12), Hope (11), and
Hayden (6); Kevin Regier and his wife Diana of Granby, Colorado, and
their children Gibson (4) and Karis (2); and Jennifer Regier of
Manhattan.
On Tuesday, April 5, at 10 a.m. The
Gathering will host a celebration service of Mark's life at the Fox
Theater at 518 N. Main in Newton. Following the service, interment
will be in Montezuma at Morningside cemetery at 3:30 p.m.
The family has chosen two ministries
that Mark loved and ask that donations be made in lieu of flowers to
The Gathering Community Church or Victory in the Valley. Please make
checks payable to either one and send to: c/o Peterson Funeral Home,
215 N Main St. Newton, KS 67114.
