Ruth E. Schmidt
Obituary
Ruth E. Schmidt, 98, died Sunday (April
3, 2016) at Schowalter Villa, Hesston. She was born January 31, 1918,
in Goessel, the daughter of Carl and Sara Unruh Schmidt.
She was a graduate of Goessel High
School and had her Master's in teaching from Emporia State
University.
Ruth retired in 1982 after 40 years of
teaching, the last 20 teaching kindergarten in Hesston schools.
She spent her summers teaching at
different camps around the country and she volunteered for several
organizations, including the Red Cross, Hesston, for 15 years.
She was also a member of the Garden
Community Church in Hesston.
On June 30, 1998, she married Roy
Schmidt in Goessel. He died October 28, 2005.
Survivors include a sister; Irene
(Willard) Nitzsche, Hesston, sister in law; Virginia Nigh (Willie),
Worely, Idaho, step children; Jerry(Dona) Weiner Schmidt, Boyne City,
Carlotta (David) Hemphill, and Twila Schmidt, Lawrence, a nephew;
Larry (Julie) Nitzsche, Akron, Ohio, two nieces; Bonnie Ruzich,
Kansas City, Kansas and Lori Nitzsche (Sam Snyder), Phoenix, Arizona,
a nephew-in-law; Peter Schaaf, New York City, four great nieces, two
great nephews, and six step grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her
parents; a sister, Wanda; a brother, Ralph; and a niece, Judith
Schaaf.
Interment will be held at 1 p.m.
Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Hesston City Cemetery. Memorial services
will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Garden
Community Church, with Pastor Gary Janzen presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are
suggested to the Garden Community Church Missions or Back to the
Bible, in care of Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston.
