Earl J. Swim 1922-2015

Earl J. Swim, 92, passed away after a short illness on February 3, 2015. He was a 50 year resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado. 

Earl was born to Eugene and Susan (Erb) Swim on December 11, 1922 in Newton, Kansas. He graduated from Newton High School in 1941. Earl was a part of the "greatest generation" as a veteran serving in the U.S. Army 1942-46. He owned his own business, Newton Auto Electric, 1948-65. He moved his family to Colorado Springs in 1965, transferring with the Postal Service. Earl started his postal career sorting mail on trains between Texas and Kansas. He retired in 1992 as Post Office Manager at the West End Post Office. After retiring he worked for Budget Rental Cars and the driver of the courtesy van for Red Noland Cadillac. 

He loved bowling and bowled on many first place teams in Kansas and Colorado. Earl was still bowling twice a week at 92. He loved the water and boating. He was a licensed pilot and in Kansas had his own 2-seat airplane. He loved playing cards and games with family and friends, was an excellent cook, and worked tirelessly in his yard for many hours. His beautiful singing voice was heard far and wide in Kansas and Colorado. He was always the "life of the party." He was a great and helpful friend to many and loved his family. 

Earl was predeceased by his loving wife of 71 years, Ruby (December 7, 2013), his son, Myron Paul Swim (December 27, 2014), parents, six brothers and one sister. 

Earl leaves behind his two daughters, Barbara Swim of Colorado Springs, Brenda Lorimor (Tom) of Morrison, Colorado; grandchildren, Stacy Swim of Colorado Springs, Shannon Sage (Kris) of Morrison, Rachelle Freelove (Jeremy) of Littleton, Colorado, and Trent Lorimor (Reggis Gordon) of Lakewood, Colorado; one brother, Marvin Swim of Wichita, Kansas, and many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will take place Friday, February 13, 2015, from 4:00-7:00pm at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 N. Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday the 14th, 2015, at 11:00am at Swan-Law Funeral Directors.
